What is Hypnotherapy – HypnosisClick to expand

Hypnosis — or hypnotherapy — uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness that is sometimes called a trance.

The person’s attention is so focused while in this state, that anything going on around them, is temporarily blocked out or ignored. Hypnosis is a perfectly natural state, and everybody regularly goes into self-hypnosis.

For Example;

Have you ever been driving a car, arrived at your destination, having none, or a limited memory of getting there. In short, you were so engrossed in your own thoughts, your sub-conscious took over.

This is you in self-hypnosis, and you are able to still function because you are on AUTO-PILOT


Your mind works at different brain waves, and whilst in hypnosis you are able to reach a ”Theta” brain state, making it possible to in-bed suggestions to your sub-conscious, or reframe memories and emotions, all whilst by-passing your conscious thinking brain. This state can give you access to forgotten childhood memories which cannot be accessed during the waking state (Beta state).


  • Delta waves (. 5 to 3 Hz) …
  • Theta waves (3 to 8 Hz) Theta brainwaves occur most often in sleep but are also dominant in deep meditation. …
  • Alpha waves (8 to 12 Hz) Alpha brainwaves are dominant during quietly flowing thoughts, and in some meditative states. …

Whilst in this state, a trained hypnotherapist is able to help facilitate healing by making the sub-conscious, conscious, therefore allowing the individual to reprocess memories, and help overcome any struggles or challenges they maybe experiencing.


Hypnotherapy works directly with the sub-conscious mind, by by-passing the conscious state. Hypnosis is responsive and extremely effective, with results potentially seen within 2 – 6 sessions, as oppose to 36 sessions + with traditional talk therapies. Therapy has an extremely high-success rate if conducted by a professionally trained practitioner.

There are 2 main types of hypnotherapy work;

Once in hypnosis, a therapist is able to offer your sub-conscious alternative suggestions, which are more beneficial to you, resulting in a positive outcome.

For Example;



During childhood, you are influenced by your experiences, and belief systems, which are given or passed down to us by our key carers. These experiences, and beliefs then start to form who we are, and our internal programming and response systems. As children, we are in a constant state of ”Theta” brain state until the age of about 7, and during this time, everything that goes in, stays in, unless corrected.

Let me give you a really simplified example;

Mum tells Johnny, that everyone in the family are no good at sport, and during sports day Johnny comes last in the running race, and all the kids laugh at him. Johnny’s belief that he is no good at sport has been confirmed by coming last, leaving an imprint that he is no good. In addition he was embarrassed and humiliated by his friends laughing at him, leaving Johnny with an emotional reaction and attachment to the event, which is very upsetting to him.

This belief overtime, maybe re-enforced by future events or experiences, and is then carried with Johnny to adulthood. (Unless there is an intervention of this programming and beliefs, these feelings will stay).

Johnny then grows up to believe and feel he is a failure. The consequences are that he suffers from anxiety every-time he needs to perform something, because the fear of failing is overwhelming to him, his emotional reactions and feelings to this, will be identical to how he felt as a child in the running race. These feelings can also show up as physical symptoms overtime.


Hypnotherapy works by correcting any programming that you have had as a child, which does not work for you today. A qualified hypnotherapist, is able to reframe the memory, release the emotional charge or sting from the original event, resulting in removing any anxieties, fears, stresses phobias or struggles.

What is EFT – (Emotional Freedom Technique)

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), also known as tapping or psychological acupressure, and is a relatively new therapy, which first came to prominence in the 1990s by Gary Craig.  It is grouped around the same methods as Energy Psychology, and utilizes similar techniques to Chinese acupuncture, as it is based around the bodies’ natural energy meridian points, except we don’t use needles!

It involves tapping specific points on the body, primarily on the head and the face, in a particular sequence, and while doing this, we focus on the issue that we wish to treat.

EFT has proved to be very powerful with people suffering symptoms such as;
  • Anxiety
  • Pain
  • Weight Loss, and eating habits
  • Phobias
  • Neutralizing emotional states
  • Enhance Sports Performance
  • Business and Public Speaking
  • And so much more………

I love this technique as it is easy to administer, is really flexible and versatile, and clients can quickly learn it, and do it in the privacy of their own home. 

EFT can produce astonishing results…!


As with acupuncture and acupressure, tapping involves the body’s energy meridian points, which are a concept in Chinese medicine. Proponents believe them to be areas of the body through which energy flows.

The theory is; that blocks or imbalances in the flow of energy in your body can lead to ill health, and it is believed that by tapping on these meridian points with your fingertips, it enables the body to restore the balance of energy, and resolve any physical and emotional issues.

What is EMDR – (Eye Movement Desensitising & Reprocessing)

EMDR – is a form of psychotherapy developed by Francine Shapiro.  It is evidence-based therapy, which is used to help people suffering symptoms of PTSD and Trauma.

It is believed that when someone experiences a traumatic or disturbing event, the normal processing systems of the brain becomes overwhelmed, and does not process the experience with the normal coping mechanisms, leaving the memory and associated emotions and responses inadequately processed.

EMDR is as effective as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with chronic PTSD.  The goal of EMDR is to reduce the long-lasting effects of the emotional distressing memories, by engaging the brain’s natural adaptive information processing systems, thereby relieving the symptoms and reducing the emotional sting from the traumatising event.

EMDR utilizes a clients senses by using eye or sound movement, left to right, allowing the brain to artificially and naturally process the memory trauma.


EMDR is a natural mental process and is very effective treatment, achieving very quick results and relief for many clients. It has the ability to reduce vivid, unwanted, repeated recollections of the event, hence reducing the emotional response.

Everybody has their challenges. But sometimes these can become overwhelming and difficult, which can impact our internal emotional well-being.

Hypnotherapy enables a person to make the changes they desire, so they can live the life that they choose, without conflict, fear, or anxiety.  By completely relaxing your mind, and talking directly to your subconscious, we are able to examine the behaviours and emotional responses that you don’t like. Then unpick them, get to the cause, and resolve the emotional problems, patterns and behaviours.

There is only one way to reduce your weight, lower your calorie intake and/or do more exercise.  We all know what we need to do, so why can’t some people do it.  Using Hypnotherapy and EFT, we examine your belief systems around food, and explore any under-lying emotional issues that you may have.

Hypnotherapy is not a diet, it is about changing your relationship with food, so that you can sustain it long term, become mindful about what you eat, and how much.  Once you become aware of the emotional triggers or snacking habits around food, we can use this to help you get back on track, resulting in sustainable weight reduction without sacrificing all of your favourite foods.

Your mind and body are connected, and about 75% of pain is being created internally, in your sub-conscious mind, as it is always trying to protect us.

Sometimes resistance in your current life, or your inner reluctance to face any traumas of the past, can manifest itself into pain, making you miserable. Its just a way of your body telling you there is something wrong, and its not necessarily physical!

Because we have the belief that pain is purely structural, it can keep us from exploring our internal state, and stops us being able to unlock the cycle of pain we experience.

By finding the cause of your pain, which can be emotional, through things like; stress, anxiety, trauma, anger etc… hypnotherapy and other such techniques is able to unblock these pathways, and release the trauma of the emotions, bringing you back to a normal pain-free healthy state.


PTSD & Trauma can be debilitating, and can stop you living a healthy normal life.

When you experience a terrible trauma, the mind does not always process the event in its usual way, and the event can just get stuck, causing PTSD and trauma.

EMDR is one of the most successful techniques in dealing with either PTSD or trauma, with the advantage of not having to continuously relive the traumatic experience, during therapy.

By using EMDR ”Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing”, we are able to process the events of the trauma in your mind, and store it in a more manageable form. This results in releasing the trauma and the sting from the event, leading to the emotional discharge and discomfort.
